Brett Kimmorley will be remembered as one of the greatest halfbacks of the modern era.
The classy No.7 made his debut as an 18-year-old with Newcastle in 1995 but found himself trapped behind another superstar, Andrew Johns.
Kimmorley headed for the Hunter Mariners in 1997 and broke into representative football, touring with the Australian Super League side.
In 1998 he joined Chris Anderson at Melbourne and the pair struck up a brilliant partnership as the Storm won the grand final and Kimmorley made his Test debut.
The following season he made his State of Origin debut for NSW and toured with the World Cup squad. In 2001 Kimmorley joined the Northern Eagles - the club struggled but he emerged with his reputation intact.
When the Eagles folded, Kimmorley was re-united with Anderson at Cronulla and once again played for Australia, winning player of the series on the 2003 Kangaroo tour.
In 2004 Kimmorley would have played for NSW in but injured his hamstring. He returned at the end of the season and once again toured with Australia.
He was back in the NSW side in 2005, playing the opening game, before helping Cronulla qualify for the finals series.
