Shane Webcke

Rugby League

Shane Webcke will go down as one of the greatest front row forwards to grace a rugbyleague field. The boy from Toowoomba achieved every honour in the game, winning multiple premierships with Brisbane, State of Origin series with Queensland and Test matches for his country.

But pure statistics don't do Webcke justice. He remains one of the code's great ambassadors, having transformed himself from a raw-boned teenager into a respected figure both on and off the field.

Webcke made his first grade debut in 1995 and took years to bed down his place in the all-star Broncos side. Once he did, he rose through the ranks at a rapid rate, representing Queensland and Australia in 1998.

He became a fixture in both sides and remained the standard-bearer in the front row for nigh on 10 years.

His career climaxed in the 2006 grand final, where he once again led from the front as the Broncos won their sixth grand final.

In his retirement, Webcke remains involved with the Broncos and has become part of the Channel Seven's sports coverage.
