Shaun Berrigan

Rugby League

Hull FC

Shaun Berrigan is one of the biggest signings in Hull FC's history. He committed himself to the Club for four years until 2011, indicating his determination for succcess in the British Super League.

Berrigan made his first grade debut in the NRL for the Brisbane Broncos in 1999 and is another of the club’s great success stories. A local junior who grew up playing for Wests-Mitchelton, Berrigan was a mainstay in the powerful Broncos side for close to a decade.

During his time with Brisbane, Berro played any number of positions and established himself as one of the game’s true utility players.

His performances at club level were mirrored at state and international level, where Berrigan was a regular member of both the Queensland and Australian sides. Remarkably within two years of making his NRL debut, he was a member of the Queensland State of Origin side.

It was only a matter of time before he transformed his success to the international arena, making his Test debut in 2004.

For all his success at state and international level, Berrigan’s career reached its highest point in 2006 when he helped Brisbane to a premiership, Queensland to Origin success and Australia to a Tri-Nations victory. Playing at hoooker in the Brisbane Bronco's Grand Final win, he won the Clive Churchill Medal.

Having achieved all there is to offer in Australia, Berrigan announced he would join English side Hull in 2008. Berrigan proved himself invaluable during 2008, missing only three games in total. He played at hooker and halfback, and even had a short spell at fullback in Hull FC’s victory against Harlequins. He was overwhelmingly voted the 2008 Players’ Player of the Year by his teammates, and alongside Captain Lee Radford, Berrigan was voted Hull FC’s 2008 Player of the Year. His status as the fans’ favourite was firmly cemented as he won the Supporters’ Player of the Year, completing his hat trick of accolades.
